We tried being a legitimate forum and it just didn't work. The environment, albeit chaotic when it comes to discussion, is a lot more relaxed. Ironically enough, I feel like we have less serious flaming than we did back when we tried to be really orderly. I still feel like if someone wanted to create a thread for serious discussion that it would stay on topic (such as some sort of debate/news issue), and I would personally take steps to moderate it to keep it on topic. For threads like these though, I really don't mind as long as people are talking to each other (except for serious rule breaking). After all, chat can't fulfill that purpose, and if we made a chat thread, we wouldn't likely get posts in much else (even less than now).

Of course, new people are still and always will be welcomed. They just need to come in expecting something way, WAY more lax than a normal forum. I'd say that's still better than your typical forum full of attention whores, passive aggressiveness, strict staff, drama, bronies, etc.

Of course, if by some miracle we became way more active and enough members wanted it, we could go back to the way it was and essentially build staff back up if we really needed to, since I don't see Flash and Saf around that much anymore.

I do feel like a lot of people have been leaving this place behind, both staff and member wise. So I guess that means there are people left over that care of this site, no matter what Evan anyone says. It'd be nice to tone it down on the gay porn though. Insistent bothering is what really rustles my jimmies, really. But I guess that's what we consider long time friendship and relaxation on has felt on this site for years. Does that sound right?

I don't feel like we've been left behind since we were the ones here in the first place, so much as Nightmare has become something else altogether. There was a period where we had absolutely nada, and I can see why people left because of that. But look at this now. Look at how much activity we've had the past couple days compared to before. I can't explain it well, but it just seems to work, if not only for us.

As for the other stuff, like I said if some serious argument happened or the thread went on a completely different tangent from post one, I'd (most likely) do something about it. But I'd say we're so used to each other that we know when we're being serious and when we're not.

If new people came, I'd make sure that they knew we're actually friendly and stuff before being too relaxed on them. Kinda like if you start talking to a group of people you've never seen before, and all the sudden everyone is teasing you. You probably wouldn't be sure if it was in a friendly way or if they were actually criticizing you. You gotta be friendly and all that so that they know you're not a dick, and then if you get closer you can be freer with what you say. And then there are times like this thread where someone can see that we don't actually all hate each other.

Other people aren't interested in the community aspect and might just want discussion though, and that's fine too. They're just gonna have to get used to seeing the same people 99% of the time.

Sounds about right for us. I just honestly like forum format a lot. You're not forced to only have 1 or whatever other number of people to talk with, and something you said can be found in post form a lot easier than something that rapidly updates like other social media.

Maybe one of the reasons that it's underused here (and consequently get less new members) is because more people prefer chat based interaction like skype and showdown? Instant gratification in someone immediately responding?

I'm so glad that you feel the need to create posts that are COMPLETELY irrelevant in the attempt to convey a point. That "challenge acceptance" would have been appropriate like.... five or six hours ago.

On the other hand, I do feel like there's less flame now as well. I miss the big chats, but the constant chasm between chat activity and forum activity is still very evident. With more posting comes less chatting. With more chatting comes less posting. And it seems like everyone came here for the chat. Which is pretty accurate considering that when the chat died, so essentially did overall activity.

I say the site died when Awake and Lyn stopped coming on regularly. Members of the year.

With Lyn left, it became an actual sausage fest.

But it's weird because forum activity wasn't the cause of chat death. This place was never a post heavy forum in the past months, even before the chat death. I guess people just found better places to chat.

Or they just stopped coming. Only the circle of friends on Skype seem to have an outlet for talking. I do miss Lyn a lot and my feaux crush on her. She was interesting, but it seems like her parents finally got to her.

Korasi, don't talk about Lyn's parents around Awake. He agrees with their Asian methods. ;-;

Aside from that, she was one of my favorite members. I hope all her hard work pays off for a good job, at least.

There are some, for example just about everyone in this thread, who are/were interested in posting, and in my opinion that's the way it should be. Now that we've killed the source/sources of the metaphorical cancer, or those who only came for chat and offered no benefit to this place in even the slightest, we're left with the people who care enough to still come on and post or visit, even if it's not frequently.

L wrote:I say the site died when Awake and Lyn stopped coming on regularly. Members of the year.
Their leave had an effect for sure, but the site really started getting dry when everyone started using Skype to talk instead of the chat, because everyone was tired of checking chat to find that nothing had been said, which was why we needed posting. Additionally, no offense to Awake or Lyn, but anyone who came for only one or two people probably wasn't very good for the site in the first place. It should be obvious why but if you need me to explain more, I will.

Awakening wrote:With Lyn left, it became an actual sausage fest.

You're right, I never thought about that. Although, it doesn't matter much since gender means next to nothing on the internet.

You're right again on the other point. Everyone had everyone on Skype anyway, so the chat became moot. As a result, the people who only wanted to chat left because they thought no chat activity=site is ded. We'd go days between posts and remained like that until recently. Eventually people started to post slightly with the more relaxed environment and that's about where we are now.

My point is that when my two favorite people left, the site became less appealing. I guess it wasn't the complete downfall of the site, but I think it still helped quite a bit. But hey, at least one of them is back now! Very Happy

Honestly, I actually believe the site has noticeably high activity right now because of Korasi. He is the one who has been spamming posts and starting conversations and disputes everywhere. As much as I don't want to give him credit, I'd say he probably takes most of the credit if the site stays active.

Re: The Great Easter Egg Hunt!

Actually, just realizing, there have been a lot posts. And only posts. And by that I mean no one going "i don't know what to post", like we used to get. So that looks really good, maybe?

I always preffered the Nightmare Chat to skype. And that's on the personal opinion that the chat kept a lot of us together and in the long term did keep us committed to the site where we invested a lot of our time to getting to know each other, rather than breaking up into skype.

Korasi did start off by posting a lot, so of course some credit goes to him, but it takes more than one to keep the ball rolling, so I think we should give ourselves a pat on the back.

I also like how loose the administration has been lately. Not that they were hard-asses in the first place, but leaving us to work out our own problems pays off, as it forces those unable to keep up to maintain a higher level of conversation than they're used to. But now most of us are on the same page.

Oh never mind, it's a similar topic.

But um, yeah. I wonder if all of this healthy posting is going to put Nightmare in withdrawal.

Giving crack to a nearly dead man won't make him live longer Korasi.

It will just make him seem like he's gonna be okay for a while.
